This Thanksgiving we reflect and look back at our year and we give thanks for so many blessings. The year began with the launch of our first illustrated children’s book, An Angel from Above / Un ángel desde arriba, illustrated by local artist Patricia González. We are eternally grateful for the support and love the community has bestowed upon this very special book that we produced as a special non-profit project for the college fund for the person who inspired the story, Ms. Jamie Paredes, childhood cancer survivor and future nurse. We believe in angels and in the miracles they bring. Our first print run has nearly sold out, and we hope to produce two more angel book stories in the future.
This year we were also very honored when our company’s founder, Dr. Ma. Alma González Pérez was selected to speak at the Latino Caucus panel “Uno, Dos, Tres: Bilingual Early Literacy in Libraries,” at the Texas Library Association conference in Dallas. She shared a glimpse of her widely acclaimed bilingual children’s book ¡Todos a Comer! A Mexican Food Alphabet Book and the upcoming 2nd book in the series, ¡Todos a Celebrar! A Hispanic Customs & Traditions Alphabet Book. She also touched on the importance of biliteracy, which we feel is paramount in bridging the achievement gap for Hispanic students.
We have also been very blessed that our first alphabet book, ¡Todos a Comer! A Mexican Food Alphabet Book has been so well received. Remarkably, it has consistently held high rankings in Amazon’s best sellers among geography & cultures, foreign language and multicultural children’s stories. It is also being used in dual language classrooms throughout the country, for which we are most happy about since this is what it was intended for.
Another milestone for us was the opportunity to promote our books at the American Library Association annual conference in New Orleans. We really appreciated the opportunity Latino Literacy Now provided us.
We continued to partake in numerous conferences and literary events this year. We we’re so happy to have met so many new partners in education who support us through their patronage. We also give thanks for the continued support from our loyal followers.
Finally, we are so happy that we have completed book #6, ¡Todos a Celebrar! A Hispanic Customs & Traditions Alphabet Book, the follow-up in our alphabet book series, which will be released early next year. Positive feedback and book reviews have started coming in, and we sincerely hope it will be as successful as our first book. We humbly ask for your support in this next book.
